The company Levi Strauss sold their first pair of jeans to gold miners during the California Gold Rush in 1853. The actual manufacturer of denim overalls started in 1870. The more modern style of jeans surfaced in the early 1920’s. Levi’s became more and more popular over the years; they began with just men’s jeans but expanded to women, teenagers, young adults and later on expanded to include kids’ jeans as well.
Levi’s has many different types of jeans, they have the 501’s, straight leg, boot cut, loose fit, slim fit, super slim fit, tapered, Capital E, Cargo, 511’s, 508’s, button fly and low riders.
By the late 1990’s the brand of jeans was facing some real competition from jean manufacturer’s overseas. The production factories in Canada and the United States closed and the finished jeans came from China, Hong Kong, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Lesotho, Mexico and Columbia.
Today the company has regained it’s standing in the world of jeans and denim products, there are regional retail operations in Canada, United States, Australia, Taiwan, South Korea, Pakistan, Japan, China, India, Europe and all over Latin America.
The Levi’s brand name has some home grown competition in Wrangler, Lee, Polo, Guess, Calvin Klein and other designer jeans. The name Levi’s is synonymous with denim and they have and will continue to be a great company selling great products worldwide.
